i love books. always have. i love how they smell and feel, their different textures
and sizes, the way they weigh in my hands and lap, and the foreplay of their
pages against my fingertips. i love the
personality of their Titles and
colorful covers and even solid-colored covers with no text—that’s so sexy. and how their inner parts get laid,
overlaid, blocked, and s t r e t c h
e d across the territory of a page for readers’
consumption. the more delicious the
content, the better.
it's Thursday and i have no idea what kind of book is being birthed this week, or what it will be about. however, by the week's end i am certain that i'll be in love all over again.
--------------------------------------
it turned out to be a little 3" x 3.75" redesigned book with mini chapters on 10 of the 12 spiritual powers--Faith, Love, Wisdom, Imagination, Understanding, Will, Order, Zeal, Renunciation and Life. the original book had a weird accordion fold that didn't quite work. so, created regular signatures, 40 pgs. total. the previous book also had soft, cloth paper covers; i created hard covers for this design with a satin finish wall paper.
what i like best about this little book is the visible spine, which i made with a strip of tyvek glued to end papers. the fun in making this book was working with the size, which took some finger dexterity and a lot of patience.
I especially
love making books. It’s a high form of meditation that centers me completely in
the present, in that holy state of “no mind," as Eckhart Tolle calls it, where thoughts yield to pure
creative impulses. that’s where all the
magic happens. that’s where the art gets
made.
